Abilities
The pet is available exclusively for the ranger profession. They are AI controlled allies that fight alongside the ranger and are maintained through a special user interface that can set basic behavior modes and activate a skill. Four pets in total can accompany the ranger (two for fighting on land, two for aquatic), but only one pet will fight at a time. Rangers can switch pets during a fight to adapt to in-game situations.
Pets have 4 skills; three shared by all pets in the same family of animals, one which is unique to that species of pet (e.g. polar bear or brown bear).

Special skill types
- Chains — Up to three skills that share a single skill slot, which are executed in sequence on a single target.
- Survival — Enhance survival or offensive abilities.
- Spirits — Summon a nature spirit that influences the area around it.
- Traps — Can be placed at a ranger's current location. When an enemy enters a trap, it is triggered.
- Shouts — Command your pet.
- Signets — Gain a passive effect until you use the skill.
Traits
A ranger has five trait lines to choose from:
- Marksmanship increases Power and Condition Duration, and greatly improves long range combat with bows and use of signets.
- Skirmishing increases Precision and Critical Damage, and focuses on flanking, critical hits and use of traps.
- Wilderness Survival increases Toughness and Condition Damage, and enhances dodging and offsetting harmful effects like conditions.
- Nature Magic increases Vitality and Boon Duration, and greatly affects spirits and increases survivability and support abilities.
- Beast Mastery increases Healing Power and Pet Attribute Bonus, directly increasing attributes of the ranger's pet, and also has various traits dealing with pets and their skills.

Weapons
- Two-handed
- Greatsword — A brute force, heavy-damage weapon with emphasis on countering and evasion.
- Longbow — Powerful sniping weapon, used for rapid fire strikes or barrages at long distance.
- Short bow — Quick skirmishing weapon relying on movement, positioning and conditions for quick kills.
- Off-hand
- Axe — Enter a stance to reflect incoming strikes or throw the axe for a boomerang effect.
- Dagger — Used as a crippling ranged attack, or a quick poisonous stab for melee.
- Torch — Throw the torch at enemies for burning damage, or can light areas on fire.
- Warhorn — Used to deal damage over time or buff allies.
- Aquatic
- Harpoon gun — Use ranged attacks to strike multiple foes and makes use of the underwater environment.
- Spear — Keep foes at bay with close range spear stabs and swipes.
Crafting

- Huntsman — Harpoon guns, longbows, shortbows, torches, warhorns.
- Leatherworker — Medium armor.
